New look for the blog with a similar header to the new website.

Still not sure what to do about watermarking my photos. I’m not crazy about that current font and not even sure if I should watermark photos at all. It makes sense for event photography, but I’m angling more commercial these days.

New logo, new website, new business cards… now the trick is to “brand” them all so they have a similar look. Needless to say, this blog needs some branding too! I’m pretty focused on getting that new website up and running though, then I’ll work on the blog.
For the time being though, here’s the front and back of my new biz card. The irony is that “branding” can be something as simple as using the same font on the website. There are two fonts in my logo now, and for some reason the web designers liked the “PHOTOGRAPHY” font and I keep having to get them to change stuff to the “pete springer” font.

Still putting the finishing touches on my new photography website. Here’s a lil’ preview. Basically, I’m just loading in photos and trying to get them so they tell a story of sorts. It’s gonna look fantastic when it’s all done, but still have a little ways to go (and never enough time!)

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for my dog. We’ve been through quite a bit together in his eight and half years. And hopefully, we still have several more years of adventures to look forward to!

Not sure why my local daily refuses to credit my photos, but they’ve now published about a half dozen of them without credits. Here’s the latest (in the paper Saturday). I’d name the paper and writer who keeps doing this, but you know, why give them credit when they won’t pay me the same respect?
The irony, of course, is that when this particular writer uses her own images in a story, she credits herself. Too bad the number of newspaper readers is plummeting even as our local population grows rapidly. In fact, this poor struggling newspaper has been laying people off left and right and they no longer even distribute statewide. Just my two cents, but it’s pretty hard to generate audience interest when you won’t even credit your audience for contributions. Is that the only reason this newspaper is slowly dying? Of course not, but my guess is that not crediting local photographers is just one of many, many ways this particular newspaper is alienating their audience.
After all, it goes both ways. A simple photo credit would have led to a link and mention of the newspaper by name in this blog. Of course a mention in a blog won’t “save” that newspaper, but if I’ve had them publish a half dozen of my pics without credits in the last couple of years, you have to assume there are dozens of other photographers, writers, etc out there with similar stories. All of them now reluctant to help market the newspaper in any way.

Had a chance to work with Erika last night for a boutique catalog style shoot. This was shot in-store for The Greenloop. All you boutiques and designers out there– I’m available for shoots like this for your clothes too! My rates are very reasonable too.
Clothes aside, Erika has the most lovely natural, s-curve stance I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, yeah… I’ve been talking about a new website forever now. But it really is coming– hopefully in the next couple of weeks. I received the prototype site last night and started loading in pics. You can see a preview above. Still needs some minor tweaks but it is super slick and silky smooth in action– mostly flash based and really a major improvement in layout, speed, and organization compared to my existing site.
And just a reminder– my existing site is completely going away. If you want to buy fashion show photos or if you have any other photos you want to buy– your last chance is NOW! I’m hoping by the first week of December to kill that old site and replace it with the new site. The new site will NOT have fashion show photos or archives for previous shoots or anything like that. Email me if you have any questions!
