That workshop with Matthew Mitchell continued this weekend and once again I learned tons. We didn’t actually shoot anything until Sunday (much of the workshop involved helping/watching Matthew shoot– which was actually very useful). Anyway, here’s one of my shots that I liked. There are tons more but I’ll probably take a much more deliberate approach to editing and selecting the best so it may be a while until I post anything else from that shoot. I’m working on re-doing my port and website based on this class so hopefully by the end of summer I’ll have a new photography “look” to present.

Still working on my beauty photography technique but with the help of that recent workshop, I think I’m starting to get it. Day two of Matthew Mitchell’s photo workshop and I’m still blown away. I’ve learned more about fashion and beauty photography in two days than I ever thought imaginable. My head is literally spinning. Matthew really has a solid style. I’m getting so much great information out of this workshop! Honestly, it’s really fantastic. It’s making me rethink my entire “career”. And how I shoot. He uses a tripod and it’s a nice one and for the first time, I’m seeing huge benefits to tripods.

So I’m taking a workshop series with LA based celebrity, fashion, and beauty photographer Matt Mitchell. It’s a real eye-opener! He’s a really fantastic fashion photographer. As in not only does he know how to shoot really well, he knows how to style hair, do makeup, and wardrobe style!

Well as usual I’m behind on my post-production work! Scrambling to get everything from this shoot last weekend posted and of course last night was “maintenance” night for my website server so I couldn’t upload. I guess there’s always tonight– the files from the 5D can be big and take two minutes per file to upload, so it’s really an all-night (automated) process. If the server is going up or down though, it makes a big upload like this impossible.

Fascinating post, eh? The irony is that computers, servers, and post-production work are now vital to photography and take up way more time than actually shooting!

Here’s another from this past weekend. I’ve been trying to sort through them to separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff, and as usual, I get distracted and just HAVE to open up a couple of my favs in PS to mess around and get a sense of the final product. Which of course adds to the time it takes to get through all the photos from the shoot…

… but sometimes it’s like being a kid at xmas time. I just HAVE to see (at least a hint) of the final product!

My photos from the Art Institute of Portland 10th annual fashion show are finally posted!

Just a reminder– prints will look much nicer than the proofs posted– and both prints and digital downloads will not contain those watermarks splashed across the middle.

It’s funny because the local daily newspaper ran a quote from someone who didn’t like any of the designs on the runway. Yeah, well that “cooler-than-thou” attitude sort of died with Kurt Cobain in my opinion. Not everything in life has to suck, dude! I thought there were some great designs on the runway.

Here are a couple of my personal favs. The model below, Danelle with MTG/Wilhelmina, is amazing. She could definitely go big time in terms of modeling if she wanted to.
