Did a shoot a while back for a local swimwear boutique. They’ve used a lot of the photos in ads– here’s a sample that was in The Mercury. Anyway, we did the entire shoot in their boutique– just requires setting up a white background, lighting it, and shooting away.
So this is a service I offer any interested boutiques– location, catalog style shooting. Check my website (look under “services”) and you’ll see my very, very affordable options for this kind of shoot.

Still sorting, editing, and finding new photos from this broken mirror shoot that I like. It’s ironic how sometimes just letting a shoot settle for a bit turns up all kinds of cool shots I previously would have overlooked/rejected.

Shot this one prior to a fashion show last week. Model is from Q6 Talent in Portland.
Anyway, I used one of the new David Hohl speed grids on a hotshoe strobe to camera right for this shot. A bit harsh for light I think, but if I had added some fill it would have been nice. Plus, I couldn’t really direct the model because they were trying out the sound system the same time I was shooting– and time was extremely limited. If nothing else, I’m sure learning how to shoot quickly these days!

So I’ve been shooting lots of photojournalism this week. Finally getting a bit more comfortable with shooting with existing light (I prefer to use strobes). Today’s event was out at a tribal village where they are getting some new houses.
I was recording audio too– got some great clips of the prayer song dedication chanting only to be told I couldn’t use it because it was sacred! Time for plan B…

Believe it or not, I did not stage this shot. For PJ, I try to avoid any staging unless it’s specifically a portrait shot to illustrate a story. This woman is in her new bedroom in her new house.

Okay, and one more shot. I had to tromp up a hill to get this and my feet are still wet! Anyway, what’s interesting about this is the paved roads and sidewalks and crosswalks and parking. Previously, the site was pretty much an unpaved free for all in terms of parking and storage and whatever else.
Anyway, if all this PJ work keeps up, I may just have to put my photojournalism gallery back on my website! I’d much rather be shooting fashion and portraits though…

Okay, so last night I was assigned to cover the local Hillary Clinton campaign (more on that in a bit). But of course there was a last minute call from my editor to run over to the Sam Adams campaign event where he had just won the race to become Portland’s next mayor.
It was an outdoor event, at night, and Adams walks out to the darkest spot possible to greet supporters. Even at ISO 1600 and f2.8, I was getting nothin’. Popped on the strobe, still shootin’ poorly ’cause I simply couldn’t focus since it was so dark. I had about thirty seconds to get a shot– so there I am trying to get my camera between the crowd, shooting in the dark, and not really getting anything worthwhile.

Finally get this shot, cross my fingers it’s good enough, and race back to the station to file my other story.
That other story was about the Hillary campaign. Lot’s of disappointment there as Obama basically thumped her in Oregon.

But I have to hand it to the volunteers there– they are hard working and very dedicated and really into supporting their candidate.

Grabbed a couple of headshots pre-fashion-show last night using strobist techniques. Umbrella and hotshoe strobe here… I also tried some with a grid, but wasn’t as happy as with the umbrella shots. Probably should have set up two lights but there were folks walking around and time was REALLY limited. I seriously was able to snap off like five shots of three models before having to pack it up. Here’s one of my favs.
Oh yeah– the actual Strut 2008 fashion show photos I shot are all being uploaded right now! Should be posted and sorted by sometime this evening.
