Slowly working through my fashion shoot from Saturday. Here’s another I liked. The river was COLD snow melt though and both me and the model (yup, I waded in too) could only stand it for about four shots before we had to dash out and warm up. Dress by Frocky Jack Morgan.

We did three looks on Saturday– here are a couple of photos from the first look.

And these next shots– the web just does not do them justice. They look best full-screen and yeah, there’s tons of resolution to really see the model and clothes. Sometimes a big ol’ 13×19 print really is the best way to view a photograph. Unfortunately, the web (and it’s avatars) seems to favor 3/4 length shots and I like to include the surroundings in my photos.

Hair and makeup are crucial to any cool fashion shoot and in the Portland area there are none finer than Julie Ruckman on hair and Terri Lodge on makeup. Really– they are the best team I’ve ever worked with.

I had a chance to work with both Julie and Terri this weekend and it was great. They’re both very talented and work amazing on location. We pretty much worked out of the back of our cars for this shoot. It also helps to have a great model (thanks Leesa!)

Finally got to shoot outdoors yesterday after almost an entire month (hell– an entire winter!) of rain. And it was an absolute blast. It really felt good to get out of the studio.
Model is Leesa, hair by Julie Ruckman, makeup by Terri Lodge, and clothes by Frocky Jack Morgan.

Picked up a last minute shoot for a boutique last night and just had to shoot a quick set-up/self-portrait style shot. The model is one of my favs in Portland– this pose was her idea!
Anyway, I cannot over-emphasize the importance of a quality model for any type of shoot where you want your clothing to look it’s best and to appeal to customers. Take Erin (who is with MTG-Wilhelmina in Portland) for example– she’s tall and pretty and has lots of ideas on posing. She works WITH photographers to get shots and always brings a bit of her personality to shoots. It really makes a tremendous difference in terms of quality photos.

So I’m at the local art museum this morning shooting some paintings for my day job. Basic set-up– strobe on each side of the painting– but a bit tricky ’cause the easel was tipped back. Anyway, that’s not the point of this post.

Alright, but here’s a sample of what I was shooting. Pretty basic stuff. Anyways, I get done, pack up all my gear, and went to leave only the museum handler was gone and I couldn’t figure out how to get out the back way that I came in… so I ended up heading out the front doors and who do I run into? The Oregon governor!

Turns out the governor was there to kick-off a “museum-free-for-under-17″ event. So I quickly pulled out the camera gear, slapped on a strobe to bounce off the ceiling, and snapped away. It actually took a bit of patience to nail this shot but I love it. One pic showing the gov, the art, and the kids all at the museum.
So the point is– you never know when there will be a great photo op so you always need to be ready!

Okay, my image server/host seems to be limping along this morning, but here are a couple of pics (if you can see them!) from The Mercury spring 2008 fashion show last night.

They had a livefeed of the show being projected on screens on both sides of the stage which made for some pretty crazy backgrounds!

Well, if these don’t load (#@%! pbase! and yes, I pay for photo storage/hosting there), and for more photos from the show, head on over to my website (more photos will be uploaded in the next day or so too):

Blame it on good ol’ pbase.com. That’s where I host my blog images and they seem to be having MAJOR server issues this past couple of days. As in photos loading and loading and loading only they never load!
Too bad… I have some cool fashion show photos for my post today…
