Shot a fashion show last night that used a living room set for the models to pose around. I absolutely could not figure out the right balance of fill flash and ambient– I tried dialing up and down my strobe exposure compensation with no luck. I finally settled on my 200 mm and full flash and forgot all about the interesting set.
The show was over an hour late in starting and I didn't get home until very late– still had to walk the dog and download images– so I only posted six of 'em on my site. More next week. Have yet another fashion show to shoot tonight, then a big ol' portfolio shoot tomorrow, followed by a poster shoot Sunday. Whew… lots of stuff to shoot.
Oh yeah, I sold a couple photos from the menswear show… so I'm very happy about that!

Shot a broken spoke, clothing by John Blasioli show last night. Tried some new stuff– mixing tungsten with daylight for a weird blue cast on the background but perfectly WB'ed skin tones on the models. People will probably think I messed up the WB, but it was intentional– note the skin tones– they're perfect.
Also did some experimenting with b & w which for this designer, I really liked. Sort of creates a 50's feel in some images for me. It was my first all-men's fashion show.
Check out the whole show at:

Couple images from a shoot last fall ended up recently on genartpulse.com. There's not a photo credit or anything since it was technically a catalog type shot, but at least I know where it came from! And I can use it on my 'published' page.
Also arranged an ad trade for one of my images with ultra.
And… contacted the creative team I like to work with (hair, make-up, and styling) and all three are on-board for this weekend– a shoot Saturday and one Sunday! I really like their work and it makes such a difference in terms of photos, so that's a big relief after the no-show on Sunday.

This is a pic from a recent fashion show that I ran across last night. I quite like it.
I had been hoping to post a couple crazy rock n' roll style photos from a shoot yesterday, but the hair and make-up person didn't show up. Two models, a photog, and a paid prep space– and no make-up/hair. She didn't answer when I called, left no message for me, and no explanation. Stephanie Cervenka, it's a small town and you burned a lot of bridges yesterday.
I had really been looking forward to the shoot– the creative direction was up to me and the clothes were from a designer who has designs I really like, Elizabeth Mollo, and the poster was for a very cool DJ, DJ Gregarious.
Luckily, we rescheduled for next week and I'm bringing in my tried and true MUA (Kristen Arnett) and a seperate hair stylist (Julie Ruckman). It's probably gonna cost me, but at least I know they'll show up!

Shot some family portraits for a co-worder yesterday. Used a white sheet for a background and turned a dining room into photo studio– two lights on the background/sheet and two lights (key with softbox and fill with umbrella) in front. The almost-three year old was quite wiggly and needed to be bribed with toys and candy to sit still– but he was happy to show me his basketball hoop outside and shoot baskets for me!

Busy week coming up– family/kid portrait tomorrow, shoot for a DJ promo poster Sunday (which I'm very excited about, even though it's a TFP shoot), and a whopping three fashion shows during the week. So should be getting some decent publicity and meeting lots of new people in the next week.
Still– there's a post on craigslist today from the friend of a designer who sells clothes at Moxie and Pin Me and is shooting photos and looking for some free models for a photoshoot. This kind of thing drives me nuts– it takes more than a digital rebel and a pop-up flash to shoot a decent photo! If you can't afford a 'real' photographer, you can't afford your shoot, in my opinion. I mean, what's the point of a shoot if it doesn't make your clothes look fantastic? No wonder I'm not getting as much paid work as I'd like– everybody has a friend with a rebel who will shoot their photos for them (and it will look like their friend with a rebel shot 'em…) Hell, why even use a rebel? I'll bet a camera phone would work just as well!

Just ordered my first ever postcard promos– 100 of 'em. I tried to keep them looking minimal yet still entice interest by offering a ten-percent off for boutiques and designers with the hopes of actually getting some paid fashion work.
I notice a lot of designers in this town simply use their friends as photogs. Seems weird to spend all that time designing clothes and then just hand over the photography to a buddy with a point & shoot. Hopefully, this postcard will convince a couple of these local folks the value of a decent photograph– and even more hopefully, they'll hire me to shoot it for them!
